52 Pictures - Week 30

A Year Later

I wrote this post back in October 2012 but never posted it.  Not sure why....but today it gets its due.

***

Recently we helped a friend prepare for a estate sale.   She and her now deceased husband lived in one of the most amazing homes in my city ~ an old church (circa 1926) converted into a personal residence.  It's called the Chouse and it's simply beautiful.  Yes, its beauty is the architecture, but it's also because these two made it their home.  They loved animals, music and community and opened it regularly for orphaned cats and dogs (lots of them) and house concerts.

Almost exactly a year ago my husband hosted a house concert for my birthday in this place.  He also surprised me with a very special gift.  He played his mandolin and sang a duet with the artist, Carter Sampson.  Only a few dry eyes in the room as we heard Townes Van Zandt's "If I Needed You".

Soon this place will be owned by someone else who will make it their home. We hope they too will experience the grace and beauty of this place.

52 Pictures - Week 26 - Skip Hill Mural

While running around town we stopped by Skip Hill's new commissioned mural on the old Homeland across from the high school.  This building will soon be the new home for Habitat for Humanity ReStore.

Skip graciously visited with us for a few minutes and what an inspiration he was to both of us!!  His words "art dies hard" reminding us to be creative.  Calling to our creative selves to say "Yes" to art.

To painting
To photography
To writing
To making music

I say...

Yes
Yes
Yes
Yes!

52 Pictures - Week 23

I just love this dog.  Scooby captured Brad's heart last October when he was running loose in the neighborhood.  His owners couldn't keep him and Scooby soon found his forever home with us.

The capture of my heart took a little longer, but he's settled in and our new routines are now normal.

He's a keeper in our family of 7.

52 Pictures - Week 22

Last Sunday night The Steel Wheels performed at the second Summer Breeze concert of the 2015 season.   They were just fabulous.  They sang a song called "Rain" which was stunningly amazing.  They apologized given how much rain we've had here in Oklahoma.  Simply.amazing.harmonies!!

Here is the song on YouTube:  "Rain" by The Steel Wheels

52 Pictures - Week 18 - Word of Encouragement

I'm including this FB screen shot in my "52 Pictures" because the words are so beautiful to me.  A dear friend (old boyfriend) from college sent me this memory on what would have been my Mom's 77th birthday.  Although I don't remember this memory specifically, I can totally see my mom doing this.  My friend's message couldn't have come at a better time for me.  Truly a Word of encouragement.

52 Pictures - Week 16 - Scooby Defense Initiative

Our SDI project extended a section of our fence 18 inches to keep our boy inside.  Although still anxious at times he's much more comfortable.  We don't worry about him bolting through open doors.   He now has three nicknames which means he's fully ensconced in the family.

52 Pictures - Week 15

Happy Oklahoma Spring!

Taken with my iPhone
Back in early April I took this photo on my way out the door.  I was running late for work, but was taken by the beautiful colors.  Last fall I planted an insane number of tulips.  We even had a few stragglers from last year who came back for a second showing.

52 Pictures - Week 14

Last night we had a friend over for dinner, drinks, and music.  So love hearing live music in our house.  What a treat.  While they played I grabbed my camera and did some more practice with the AV setting.  Here is my favorite of B's mandolin.

Also took photos of the lovely moon last night.  Took awhile to get the camera to see what I was seeing, but I'm pretty happy with these.

P.S.  I showed B the post and he said "It's almost like the Bat Signal!"...  he's rescuing humanity on the xbox, or maybe Mr. Freeze.

52 Pictures - Week 12

Turned on the "Highlight Alert" setting today and took shots of Grace.  Although this setting could become annoying, I see how it can be useful as a training aid to see overexposed areas.  This was the fourth image with just a little bit of overexposure on the top of Grace's back.   If I understand the lingo correctly, I underexposed the image 2 stops to get the proper exposure.
